Field Trips & Conferences

Project Hessdalen organizes Field Trips early in September, every year, and a Conference every second year.

Join the next field trip & conference in September 2026

Year-wheel

Plan: Prepare for the Field Trip.
Test: New equipments needs to be tested at home.
Build: New equipments needs to be purchased and shipped to Hessdalen.
Install: New equipments needs to be assembled then installed during the Field Trip.
Collect: Time to ensure that the systems work and collect data as Expected
Analyze: Evaluate the data quality from last year and this year - and write a report on the findings.

Objective

To develop a modern Anomaly Detection System (ADS) for Project Hessdalen by deploying compact, off-grid measurement stations with all-sky cameras and environmental sensors to detect and categorize anomalous events in real time.

Goals

What we want to achieve during the field trips:
  • Install new cameras and sensors.
  • Get help from attendees to carry out and set up the new equipment.
IN THE BLUE BOX:
  • Test sensors
  • Test scientific cameras

BlueBox 4G Node:

With 4G we can transfer images and videos, and sensor data. The node would be connected to a battery pack and a solar panel for all year operation.

Field Trips

Our goal is to organize a field trip every year - first week of September.

At this time it will be dark after 9 PM, but normally the temperature is not too bad:

Average temperatures in Hessdalen at the end of the summer - in Celsius

In 2024 it was sunny and nice!

In 2025 it was windy and rain - but occasionally the sun appeared.

You never know what the weather will be like - and in Norway it can change quickly. It's best to be prepared:

The main goal of the Field Trip

  • To have "eyes int the sky" - many people out to observe,
and hopefully see the Hessdalen light
  • Learn how to observe - we will provide material and training exercises
  • To discuss the phenomena
  • To meet local people from the valley
  • To help us deploy new equipment

During a field trip we arrange Guided Tours, Discussions and Short presentations, but the most important part is the meeting other people - during a mountain hike or relaxing in a mountain cabin.

Conferences

Our goal is to organize a conference every second year.

The main goal of a Conference

  • Present the data we have collected
  • Discuss techniques and technologies used in UFO investigations.
  • Host panels and discussions with scientists, researchers, and eyewitnesses
  • Community Building
  • Educate the public/media about the UFO topic

During a Conference in Hessdalen you will experience both the organized program and the informal meetings during the Field Trips.
